Original Software speeds up defect reporting and save 3 – 4,000 hours in major M3 upgrade
Valmet is well known for offering equipment and services for the sustainable processing and flow of natural resources in the mining, aggregates, recycling and process industries. Headquartered in Finland, they employ more than 12,000 people in over 50 countries and have in excess of 40 valve and service centers around the world.
Testing and documentation of testing was previously a very slow and error-prone area, and with a large Infor M3 upgrade looming, they wanted to take steps to improve both speed and quality in testing and project management.
With over 200 modifications in addition to the standard Infor M3 solution, there were a high volume of test cases to run through in the upgrade to M3 version 13.4. They currently have 2,000 test cases with M3 used in 6 different countries, each of which has to test and provide proof of testing as part of the project.
The solution
With the Original Software Testing Platform they were able to stay on top of all the test activities throughout the testing period. The dynamic graphical reporting makes it easy to clearly follow progress, results and overall status.
Original Software enables us to know exactly what each tester has done, and the recordings help us prepare for the future as well. We can use the results for producing training materials.
Easier defect reporting to the vendor
By taking advantage of the platform’s interface to Jira, defects identified by the testers are now reported directly to the vendorās ticket system. This has streamlined the communication, and when needed, test results can be attached to the tickets in Word or PDF format to provide the required documentation to facilitate problem resolution.
Defect reporting time has sped up tremendously because of the integration between Original Software and Jira.
Some of the benefits
Since working with Original Software, the team has seen a number of benefits; aĀ lot of time has been saved in terms of documenting the testing activity, with the added benefit of a clear audit trail that proves what was tested and not only removes an element of doubt but ensures a high level of compliance too.
In addition to the improved and easy defect reporting to the software vendor, other visible enhancements have been a higher quality of Project Management and the fact that the testers are able to be more efficient with their time and efforts.
Before, testing and documentation of testing was done using Excel and numerous copy/paste routines in Word. It is so easy to follow the status for all the tests, and with the ācleanā test results, we know exactly what people have been doing.
The vision moving forward.
Using the project management benchmark from the first round of testing, Valmet is ready for more solution tests in the next round as the different areas are ready for testing. User acceptance testing will be done in the third round. Using the platform, the breadth of the testing can easily be expanded to include the important interfacing applications as well.
Additionally, the solution kit will be used for other applications within the organization as well. They have already begun testing Salesforce.com in instances where the application interfaces with Infor M3.
